DV lottery
The Diversity Visa (or Green Card) Lottery is a program developed by the United States Congress, created to diversify the U.S. population through the addition of thousands of individuals and families from nations around the world. Under the DV Lottery program, 55,000 applicants are awarded a U.S. green card, granting them permanent residence in the United States and a path to U.S. citizenship. Now selected twice annually by random selection among entrants, the DV Lottery exists for individuals from countries that are underrepresented in the U.S. population due to low immigration rates.
Although the green card does not allow you to vote or be voted for, it does allow you to live, work, and study like an American citizen. Once you have held your green card for five years, you will be entitled to apply for United States citizenship.
Benefits of Winning the Green Card Lottery
If you are a lucky winner in the Green Card Lottery, your spouse and unmarried children under 21 can receive Green Cards as well. They will have the opportunity to live and work legally in the United States.
Also, a winner in the Green Card Lottery who receives a Green Card and lives in the U.S. for five years has the benefit of applying for citizenship. For help in entering the Green Card Lottery, contact us. we will assist you in every step needed to apply.
Will I automatically receive a Green Card if I am selected as a winner of the DV-Lottery?
If you are randomly selected as a “winner” of the Diversity Visa (Green Card) Lottery, this does NOT mean that you will “automatically” be issued a Diversity Visa or a Green Card, but it does mean that you have been chosen out of millions of DV-Lottery participants for the opportunity to apply for one of the 50,000 Diversity Visas authorized to be issued each year. It is very important to know the exact deadline for green card application.
After being selected as a DV-Lottery winner, you must next submit some forms to the U.S. State Department’s Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) so that the Consular Interview can be scheduled at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in your country.
